Ondo APC dismisses rumours of Mimiko defection to party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state has debunked rumours that Governor Olusegun Mimiko has joined the party in the State.

In a statement signed by the Party’s Publicity Secretary Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, he said, “our attention has been drawn to the rumours making the round that, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has joined our Party, APC, in the State. I want to say emphatically that it is not true. The purported rumours is a deliberate attempt to weaken the spirit of the people to effect change in this Saturday’s House of Assembly election”.

APC said governor Mimiko who brought political ebola into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State will not be allowed to infest APC in the State.

The party said “Governor Mimiko has not joined our party, we are not aware of any supposed meeting he claimed to have had with our leaders. Although, it is confirmed that, Dr. Mimiko has been reaching out to some of our Party leadership, but it has been made clear to him that he can not be accepted into the Party’s fold.

“To set the record straight, it should be noted that no leader of our Party will welcome or accept Governor Mimiko into our great Party. He can not use our Party to redeem the political injuries and bruises he has suffered. He is no longer popular among the people and he is trying to use his defection rumours to sway the mind of the good people of the Sunshine State to feel pity for him.

“The rumours going round in town that he (Mimiko) has joined the APC is untrue and unfounded, we cannot accept political liability into our celebrated Party which represents the hope of the masses.

“It is the oppression and tyranny which governor Mimiko meted on our people that gave us the strength to work harder to salvaging our people from his claws of ruderless government.

“The rumoured defection of Governor Mimiko is another gimmick to play his political maneuvering, which he has been known to had mastered”.

APC called on the people to disregard the rumour as the Party was known to be endowed with men and women of high integrity that had the interests of the masses at heart.

It added that, “the reigns of political Maradona is gone in Ondo State; the people are wiser about their choices of leadership and representatives”.

It urged the people to turn out en-mass come Saturday, April 11 to vote for candidates of the APC in the House of Assembly election.
