Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko was not sincere with his plan for the recruitment of 2,000 teachers into the state Teaching Service Commission.
The party described the Governor’s announcement as a political gimmick, saying the Mimiko led government has no intention to recruit any teacher or civil servant.
The APC described the government’s intention as “a mirage and another way to deceive the good people of the state”.
In a statement issued by the state publicity secretary of the party, Mr Abayomi Adesanya, the APC said, “If 2,000 qualified teachers are genuinely recruited, in the highly-publicised recruitment plan of the government, and not the usual chicanery, trickery and media propaganda of the Mimiko-led administration, then, the Dr Olusegun Mimiko-led administration would have scored a point.
“What the people of Ondo State witnessed since February, 2009, in the scope of employment and empowerment are nepotism, discrimination and partisanship. Friends and families of Mr Governor are being smuggled through the back door, into the state’s Civil Service Commission, while bristling population of the unemployed youths are left in the eternal joblessness, by the Mimiko-led administration.
“Sacking and retrenchment of workers under the guise of flimsy excuses is the order of the day in Ondo State today”.
The APC stated further that “for a government that has abandoned the people for almost six years to suddenly announce its intention to recruit 2,000 teachers is a big surprise to us”.
The party added that “the recruitment exercise is an attempt to shore up the dwindling popularity of the state government.
“For records purposes, the last time Ondo State people witnessed mass and genuine recruitment into the State Civil Service, precedes the Mimiko era. Also, the need to boost the State’s Teaching Service Commission with over 10,000 teachers, has been at the fore of developmental discourse in the State since year 2009.
“Would this government, not give the prospective 2,000 teachers the treatment it gave to the workers in the 18 Local Governments areas, recruited under Mr Governor’s supervision, through the backdoor few months to Governorship election in 2012? – Those workers were consequently tagged ghost workers and sacked immediately after the re-election of Mr Governor. How can anyone be sure that the prospective 2,000 teachers will not be labeled ghost workers and sacked after the 2015 General Elections?
“Again, would the 2,000 prospective teachers not suffer the same fate, with hundreds of teachers in Ondo State who were tagged ghost workers and left unpaid for 10months? These teachers were later forced by this government, to sign leave of absence for the period of 10 months after they scaled through verification exercise. What a government”.
It would be recalled that the Ondo State Government last week, announced its intention to recruit 1,200 Education Graduate teachers, 300 National Certificate of Education (NCE) teachers and 500 non- teaching staff to compliment the educational drive of Mimko’s administration.
