Ondo State Alliance for Democracy, AD, governorship candidate, Chief Olusola Oke has picked a former governorship aspirant under All Progressives Congress, APC, Gani Dauda, as his running mate for the November 26 governorship poll.
The development came as a former chieftain of the APC, Hon. Bola Ilori, disclosed that a national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu instructed him and others to join the AD in protest of outcome of the September 3 primary.
The decision on Dauda was agreed on Sunday after the party’s caucus meeting in Akure, the state capital, The Nation reports.
Stakeholders in the four local government areas of Akoko land have been agitating for Muslim deputy governorship ticket under any party to secure votes from the area.
Oke had on Saturday dumped the APC for AD, where he was consequently picked to replace Akin Olowookere as the party’s candidate
Dauda, who represented Akoko North East and Akoko North West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly between 2011 and 2015, was at the venue of the meeting to sign his membership card as a member of the AD.
The former lawmaker said the Christian/Muslim ticket of the AD would win the next election in the state.
“I am a Muslim and from Akokoland. We are taking Ondo State to a new height,” Dauda said.
He added that Oke, Senator Ajayi Boroffice and Dr. Olusegun Abraham “are all working together”.
APC had on Sunday reacted to the defection of Oke to the AD, calling it a blessing in disguise.
