Omeruo scores embarrassing own goal in Turkey

Nigerian defender, Kenneth Omeruo scored an embarrassing own-goal yesterday as his side, Alanyaspor struggled to defeat visitors, Gaziantepspor in the Turkish first division.

Omeruo, who made the list of Germot Rohr’s men to face Algeria in Uyo next weekend, produced an awkward own goal that cancelled out Alanyaspor’s lead in their 4-3 Turkish League home victory over Gaziantepspor.

Ilhan Parlak sent his freekick in deep into Alanyaspor box and despite there not being under any pressure, the 23-year-old put the ball past goalkeeper Zdenek Zlamal in his attempt to clear the ball.

Five minutes into halftime, Evans Kangwa gave the visitors lead but thanks to second half strikes from Daniel Candeias, Wilde-Donald Guerrie and Vagner Love’s last minute strike handed the home side a hard earned win.

The victory takes Alanyaspor to the 11th position with 11 points from 10 matches.

Omeruo, who is on loan from Chelsea, has made eight appearances in the Turkish top flight.
