Kenneth Omeruo has confirmed that he will not take up the option to have surgery on his dislocated shoulder.

The Super Eagles defender hurt his shoulder, during Nigeria’s 0-3 loss to Spain at the Confederations Cup and was taken off for immediate surgery.

However, he plans to rest the injury, so he can participate in Chelsea’s pre-season training, in order to win a place under Jose Mourinho.

“I had the option of surgery, which would keep me out for three months, or just rest it,” Omeruo told KickOffNigeria “I decided I would rest it.

“I want to be part of the pre-season with Chelsea, and I hope that I can do well enough to stay there and not go out on loan again.”

Omeruo is hopeful he can do enough to persuade the Blues manager, who he feels will give everyone a chance to prove themselves.

“I’m sure he will be looking at all his options now, and if I work hard enough, I can make it hard for him,” he said.
