The Alliance for Democracy (AD) gubernatorial candidate in the 2016 governorship election in Ondo state, Chief Olusola Oke SAN, has denied the rumour of his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Oke, who reacted to his purported defection which was published in one of the national dailies, described the report as “fallacious”.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to DAILY POST, Oke noted that the motive behind the rumour was not unconnected with the present political atmosphere of the country, as he has no intention of leaving the APC.

According to him, “I read in the Friday edition of the Vanguard Newspaper a planted story that I am set to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“The said planted news is not only fallacious, it represents lies in its entirety.

“Regardless of the ascribed unfavourable experience in APC as claimed by the planted story, I have no intention and never contemplated leaving APC either for PDP or any other party at that. Politics is in the air and one will understand the wicked intention behind the planted story especially at this time.”

He however called on journalists to ensure that news items are accurately verified before they are dished to the public.

“While I appreciate the information dissemination role of the profession of journalism, I am of the firm opinion that the profession demands the confirmation of information and event before their reportage.

“I am accessible and would have thought a concocted news of this nature deserves clarification before its needless reportage. That in itself is the decency in the profession of journalism.”

The former governorship candidate, who decamped from the PDP to APC after losing the 2012 governorship election to Olusegun Mimiko joined the AD after failing to clinch the governorship ticket of the 2016 election. He however later returned to APC after the election which saw the present Governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, as winner.
