Olusola Oke blasts Mimiko over Jonathan Campaign’s DG selection

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State is now set for another political war over the selection one Mr. Tokunbo Modupe as the Director-General of President Goodluck Jonathan/Nnamdi Sambo Campaign Committee.

Already, Governor Mimiko, at the weekend inaugurated the campaign committee which is expected to begin campaign in all the local government areas of the state today.

But, the aggrieved leaders, who are mainly from the old PDP camp and led by its former governorship candidate in the 2012, gubernatorial election, Chief Olusola Oke, have vowed to shun campaigns organized by the committee, if the governor failed to make amendment

It will be recalled that during Jonathan’s campaign visit to the state, he attested to the fact that there was crisis in the party, urging Mimiko to work with Oke and Bar. Jimoh Ibrahim in order to allow peace to reign in the party.

Oke, while addressing reporters at a time when the inauguration ceremony was ongoing, said himself and other leaders of the party were completely sidelined in the process of selection and inauguration of the campaign committee.

According to Oke, “the governor, despite all appeals and entreaties that he should do otherwise, continues to behave like a sole administrator and an emperor who sees all of us in the party as conquered people.

“I have the mandate of a large section of our party and I speak on their behalf to reject the campaign council as inaugurated especially the Director-General. He is unacceptable and I am not speaking alone but on behalf of the entire good members of our great party who are desirous to see us win the coming election overwhelmingly for Mr. President.

“The governor is deliberately undermining the strength of our party and the chances of Mr. President to win the coming election in this state. I wonder why anybody that says he wants victory for the president would want to cause problems for a party that had been positioned for victory.”

At the inauguration, Mimiko, who charged members of the committee to ensure they delivered the one million votes target for the party in the coming election, expressed confidence in the team leader, Modupe.

Mimiko noted that members of the campaign team were carefully selected by the State Chairman of the party, Clement Faboyede, charging them to encourage their people to go out and collect their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), describing it as their electoral power to re elect president Jonathan.

‎Earlier, Faboyede who stated that the team should consider its role as paramount to win their local governments for PDP, disclosed that the campaign would start in Idanre, Ifedore and Akure North local councils of the state.
