The Chief coordinator of the Olubadan first coronation anniversary, who is also the Agbaakin of Ibadan land, Chief Lekan Alabi, has said that the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, remained committed to the re-activation of Ibadan Airport and creation of Ibadan State.
These goals, he said were part of the three cardinal programmes the royal father highlighted a year ago when he was crowned the 41st monarch of the ancient city.
Alabi stated this on Wednesday at the event marking the first coronation anniversary of the Olubadan.
“The Olubadan is a successful business man and he has rubbed that on Ibadan. The creation of Ibadan State, the completion of the new Olubadan palace and activation of Ibadan new airport in Alakia are his three cardinal points,” he said.
At the event, which started with a prayer for the monarch at his Popo palace, Alabi said that in the past one year, the Olubadan had brought progress to the city.
He said, “The celebration started today (Wednesday) with special prayers for the kabiyesi at his palace and a carnival at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
“The celebration continues on Thursday with a lecture and free medical check-ups for our people. On Friday, there will be thanksgiving during the Jummat prayer while the Olubadan will attend a church on Sunday for thanksgiving service. This celebration is based on gratitude to God as typified by the Ibadan unique traditional chieftaincy system.
“Only men of destiny get to the throne of Olubadan if you consider the 22 or 23 steps one has to climb from the day one is chosen as Mogaji (head) of one’s family.
“Based on the feedback from our people, the kabiyesi has brought peace and wealth to the city even in the time of economic recession.
“Every human being carries an aura; that is why some people will excel in certain position where others will fail no matter the level of education.”
