Olubadan, Ladoja absent as Ajimobi presents staffs of office to 21 new Obas in Ibadan [Full list]

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji Aje Ogunguniso 1 and a former Governor of Oyo State who is also the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja were among major personalities absent on Sunday at the coronation of 21 newly elevated beaded crown Obas in Ibadan, the state capital.

The event which took place amids heavy security presence, was attended by the state overnor Senator Abiola Ajimobi, members of his cabinet among others.

Ajimobi presided over the crowning ceremony, presentation of certificates as well as staffs of office for the 21 Obas at the event which took place at the Mapo Hall in the heart of the ancient city.

The Olubadan, DAILY POST reported earlier on Sunday, distanced himself from the coronation stating that he will never be part of an event he did not endorse.

He also cited two pending court cases for his absence at the event.

Ladoja on the other hand has approached the state High Court praying it to declare the Olubadan Chieftancy review as illegal.

But Ajimobi while presenting staff of offices and formally coronating the new Obas declared that his action was in accordance with the law.

“Pursuant to the government white paper on the judicial commission of enquiry of the existing Olubadan of Ibadan declaration and ther related chieftaincies in Ibadanland, published in the Oyo State Gazette No. 14, Vol. 42 by authoruty on the 23rd August 2017 and the amended declaration on regulating the selection to the Olubadan of Ibadan chieftaincy and related matters as published in the Oyo state gazette No. 15, Vol, 42 by authority in Ibadan on 24th August 2017, the Oyo State government hereby provides as a matter of duty further insights and highlights for record purposes”, he said.

Ajimobi maintained that the initiative was carried out in order to meet the yearnings of the people of the ancient city.

According to the state, “In deference to the wishes of the people of Ibadanland, especially the traditional chiefs, governor Abiola Ajimobi set up the Justice O. A. Boade commission of inquiry. The jucicial commission of enquiry was constituted to review the Olubadan chieftanicy declaration of 1959 made pursuant to the 1957 chiefs lawas and other related chieftaincies in Ibadanland in line with the current reality of chieftaincies of equal status across the Yorubaland in general on 9th May 2017. The commission submitted a-three volume report at the executive council chamber, Treasury building, Secretariat Ibadan on Friday 19th August 2017”.

The newly coronated Obas include 8 members of the Olubadan-In-Council who will now be addressed as Royal Majesties and newly promoted Baales who will now become Obas with Royal Highness as prefix before their respective names.
