Super Eagles handler, Sunday Oliseh, has said that he is looking to invite the best legs for Nigeria’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in March.
The national team coach revealed that he has marked out seven players from the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda, who he will promote to the main team.
“I have already worked with the home-based team for like a month and half now. So, we already know among the home-based those that we are going to invite for the game proper,” Oliseh said.
“From the CHAN we have like seven players that I have found very good (to be in the main team of the Eagles). I think they can stand the high level required. I put them towards a lot of high tempo pace and everything and they were able to cope.
“From the 2016 CHAN Super Eagles team, it is no secret that Ifeanyi Mathew was probably our most consistent and our best player there. For that reason personally he is supposed to make the team but I hope he doesn’t lose form or get injured before the time we will converge for the match. He is one of the players I am looking to invite to join the team.
“But like I always said I will invite all of them and try to get two players for each wing and then they will fight it out at training. The one who shows that he is ready and in top form will play. Then once they are in camp I don’t see home-based or foreign-based again. They are all Super Eagles players.
“So, all I am doing now is looking at the current form of the players that we have in Europe and that is why I am going around to see the players in action for their clubs in Europe. This week I have scheduled to watch some games in (Europe) and see how the players are doing. Based on this we will then decide who to invite for the Egypt match.”
