Oliseh to recall Mikel Obi for Tanzania clash

New Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, is set to invite John Mikel Obi, for Nigeria’s next Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania.

The Chelsea midfielder, who has not played for the national team since November 2014, will be utilized as a defensive midfielder.

“Mikel still remains one of Nigeria’s top stars in Europe even though he is no longer playing regularly for Chelsea these days; but that is why he will be part of Oliseh’s immediate plans, beginning with the AFCON qualifier in Tanzania next month,” a top official informed AfricanFootball.com

“But instead of giving him a free role as he has been given in the Eagles in the past, he will play as a defensive midfielder, like he does for his club.”

Nigeria are currently in second place behind Egypt on goals difference in their qualifying group, after they beat Chad 2-0 in Kaduna last month.
