Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, is set to drop Paul Onobi from the squad that will take on Egypt in March.
The midfielder is facing the axe, after his underwhelming performances at the African Nations Championship, where Nigeria was dumped out at the first round.
Onobi burst onto the scene last year, after Oliseh selected him ahead of John Mikel Obi, for the Eagles’ FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier against Swaziland.
However, his form dropped drastically and he was warned severally by Oliseh, who is now ready to axe him for the double header against Egypt.
“The boy (Paul Onobi) was no where his best in all our games at the CHAN,” an official informed Completesportsnigeria.com.
“He got a big opportunity to shine in Rwanda, but he failed to utilise it.
“As it stands now, he might be dropped from the squad for the Egypt games as the coaches seem now keen on looking at other players in his position.
“He was lucky to start all the games after he struggled in all the friendly games.
“There are other players who used to be regulars, but were dropped from the starting line-up due to their poor showing in the friendlies.”
