The National Publicity Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin on Friday described his Peoples’ Democratic Party’s counterpart, Olisa Metuh, “a power-drunken fellow”.
Fashakin was reacting to a statement credited to Metuh in an interview with PREMIUM TIMES.
Metuh had said: “We have a political party (ACN) that is controlled by one man, and the other one (CPC) believes in violence, and religious politics.
“We don’t see the two of them coming together to form an opposition to PDP, but we welcome it and we are happy with it, we believe that it will deepen democracy in Nigeria.”
But in an exclusive interview with DailyPost, Fashakin accused Metuh of being carried away by the “power and grandeur” attached to his office.
He said: “PDP is a party that is unworthy of being in government. They should know that someone like Olisa Metuh who has no pedigree, is a person they should not associate with. Metuh being in their fold only shows that the PDP is a party for cats and dogs.”
“You will recall that as PDP Vice-Chairman, South-Esat, Olisa Metuh rudely barged into the school of his son in a Gestapo style and manhandled the teachers. What can be more violent than that? That he is accusing CPC of violence is laughable.”
“By storming the school with his police orderlies to harass innocent teachers who are teaching our children, is a total abuse of office. The fellow is a naturally violent man who is drunk with the unexpected power and grandeur he has found himself in.”
Speaking further he said the ruling party cheated General Muhammadu Buhari thrice in presidential elections he contested.
“They are scared of change and that is why Buhari was short-changed thrice. It happened in 2003 under Obasanjo. It happened in 2007 and even the then President Yar’adua said the elections that brought him in was not free and fair; he said he didn’t win. And in 2011, we all know what happened.”
On the question of PDP’s accusation that General Buhari instigated the violence that erupted after the 2011 general elcetions, Fashakin said Buhari on the contrary played the role of a statesman.
“Of course they had to say something for the sake of talking. Even when people rioted, Buhari came out to caution the people. Buhari is discipline; he is patriotic.”
“My friend, let me tell you; when it comes to party standard, we are not and can never be in the same category with PDP.”
