Delta State Governor, Arthur Jfeanyi Okowa on Sunday lamented the high rate of communal crisis in the State.
Okowa, who spoke at the 1st year Coronation Anniversary of the Olu of Warri Kingdom, HRM. Ogiame Ikenwoli, which held at Church of God Mission, in Warri expressed sadness at the level of killings going on as a result of disputes in the State.
In his words, “I am saying this because we are in very difficult times where we are facing problems from traditional institutions and we are creating problems amongst our communities.
“People can now rise in this state in this time of our lives, take a gun and shoot a human being and cut his head and take it and be proud that he is holding the head of a human being, and communities are beginning to retaliate. What kind of lives are we living? He queried.
Governor Okowa stressed the need for traditional rulers to promote peace in their various communities.
According to him, “Our traditional rulers, I am happy that you are here in large numbers. This is something that we must look into because if what had happened several years ago when people do not know God is happening now, then there is cause for alarm. And I believe that traditional rulers must rise up and condemn this in its entirety.”
He also appealed to deltans to surrender their lives to God and forgive each other for peace to reign in the state.
The Governor also congratulated the Olu of Warri of his 1st year coronation anniversary noting that the revered monarch had shown good example for giving thanks to God Almighty in the church.
