Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has expressed shock at the lack of confidence among the Igbos to aspire for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015.
Okorocha made known his disappointment when he received the Enugu Zonal Director and management team of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) at the Government House, Owerri.
He asserted that the country belonged to all Nigerians and wondered why Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo should champion the cause of discouraging an Igbo man from aspiring for the highest position in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Governor went on to task the Igbos to brace up and support any of their own who has the ambition to become the nation’s president.
He assured the Enugu Zonal Director of the FRCN of the support of his government but challenged FRCN stations to pursue the goal of uplifting the people and uniting the nation by being objective in their reportage.
Okorocha however regretted that FRCN had failed to give elaborate report on the abandoned Imo axis of the Port-Harcourt-Owerri Road which posed great danger to motorists plying the highway.
Speaking earlier, the Enugu Zonal Director of FRCN, Chigozie Obialor said they were in Owerri to hold their 3rd and 4th Annual conference.
He noted that the conference themed: “Overcoming the challenges of Election Year through Radio Programme”, would provide the radio Stations within the zone with new ideas that would help serve the public better.
Obialor appreciated the Governor for providing the radio station with conducive atmosphere for operation in Owerri and requested for an operation vehicle for the Owerri Station. He also assured the State government of the station’s collaboration.
