The youths of Oguta local government area in Imo state have apologized to Gov. Owelle Rochas Okorocha for the recent attack on his convoy super-headed by Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming June 29 Oguta state assembly rerun election.
The youths numbering over one thousand had stormed government house Owerri to demonstrate their support and solidarity to Gov. Okorocha and his administration ahead of the election.
While making their submissions, the youths led by Denis Nwachukwu, the President, Jeff Nwaoha, ISOPADEC Youth Leader in Oguta and Prince Eze Solomon Orluzurumee Youths, described the attack as an embarrassment on the people of Imo state and not Gov. Owelle Rochas Okorocha as a person.
They described the PDP candidate as a ‘prodigal son’ whose desperation to win the forthcoming election at all cost made him to defy every caution and unleashed attack on the governor’s convoy.
The youths also maintained that with Oguta benefiting so much from the benevolence of Gov. Okorocha administration, the governor deserves better treatment than the attacked by the PDP candidate and his thugs.
They pledged to further demonstrate their support to the governor by ensuring that the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), Hon. Walter Uzonwanne wins the election on Saturday, adding that the good work of governor in Oguta and the entire state has already paved way for his victory.
In his response, Gov. Owelle Rochas Okorocha commended the youths for their unflinching support and reiterated his commitment to sustain the ongoing transformation championed by his administration. He appealed to the youths to remain law-abiding even in the face of provocation, adding that the forthcoming election in Oguta should not be seen as a do-or-die affair.
Gov. Okorocha explained that any vote casted for the APGA candidate is ultimately a vote in support of his administration and for the liberation of Oguta and her people.
The governor lamented the level of neglect of the rich oil producing area by the previous PDP administrations and vowed to ensure that the people are liberated from the bondage orchestrated by those he described as agents of darkness.
Gov. Okorocha disclosed government plans to launch N500 Million Trust Fund for direct youth empowerment of the youths of Oguta and Ohaji/Egbema, the oil producing local government areas of the state.
