Oil revenues has bred lazy, corrupt politicians only interested in looting the treasury – Chri


Rev. Chris Okotie of the Household of God Church says corruption in

government has made politics very attractive, noting that oil revenues have bred lazy and corrupt politicians who contested elections in a bid to loot the treasury.

Okotie, the Chairman, Fresh Democratic Party, in a statement issued on Thursday, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for convening the national economic summit which would create an opportunity to engthe all stakeholders on the economic direction of the government.

He said, “Corruption in government has made politics very attractive.

“The concentration on oil revenue is the root cause of the present unprecedented looting of the national treasury, as it has bred a lazy and corrupt political class, who seek power because of the opportunity to steal and vandalise our national assets.

He, however, stated that President Buhari’s 10-month administration had stirred controversy because of the government’s relentless war against corruption, which he said appeared to have ovadministration other activities of the government.

While warning stakeholders against canvassing for the adoption of foreign economic models alien to Nigeria, the pastor cum politician said, “The position of our party on the economy has not changed siwar we launched our manifesto in 2007.

“Every sector of the economy needs quality manpower to develop programmes that could drive the economy towards self-sufficiency, rather than import dependency.”

“There’s the need for a shift in the governance paradigm, which, when contextualized within the prevailing circumstances, is the creation of a new national economic order that focuses on the development of when abundant human capital as a developmental priority, so that the indigenous manpower so developed would now cultivate our extractthe assets for the benefit of all.”
