This year’s Igbo Day celebration will hold between September 27 to 29, 2013, Ohaneze Ndigbo has disclosed.

This is even as Ndigbo have kick started the process of seeking reparation from Nigeria over perceived injustice they have suffered over the years.

President-General of the apex Igbo organization, Chief Enwo Igariwey disclosed this on Saturday after “Ime Obi”, a meeting of Ohaneze Ndigbo caucus, held in Enugu.

He said the event, which would take off with a 2-day summit would be concluded with a special Igbo Day celebration on the 29th of September.

He stated that the summit would afford Ndigbo both at home and in diaspora the opportunity of deliberating on issues affecting them in Nigeria, stressing that decisions taken at the summit would be made public on the final day of the celebrations.

“This is the second Ime Obi since our election; the meeting was called to address some national issues and to reinforce decisions already taken.

“Specifically, the Ime Obi has deliberated and approved the Igbo Day and summit, which starts September 27”, he stated.

“We also discussed bombings in Kano and other killings; we condemned the killing of Nigerians in the mosque, we also condemned the killing of other Nigerians in different parts of the North.

“We also condemned the deportation of Ndigbo from Lagos; we ask that forthwith, comments should be restrained; Ohaneze will take steps to address these issues, we are appealing to our people to remain calm and not aggravate issues.

“We condemned the abuse of our farms by herdsmen; before now, Ohaneze has condemned it but the situation has not changed; Ime Obi has re-emphasized it today and asked that a serious step be taken to end this anomaly where cattle is allowed to graze freely in our farms with gun bearing herdsmen”, he added.

Ohaneze also announced the formation of various committees, among which are outreach committee chaired by Senator Hope Uzodinma, planning committee chaired by Alison Madueke, reparation and remedies, chaired by Mbazulike Amechi, among others.
