Ohanaeze youths condemn Osinbajo’s stand on restructuring

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, Wednesday, condemned the position canvassed by Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo with regards to calls for true restructuring of Nigeria’s federalism.

Osinbajo had in a TV programme on Tuesday said while he was an advocate of fiscal federalism, he stood totally against restructuring Nigeria along regional lines, as well as rotational presidency.

Reacting to his stand, the OYC in a statement signed by Mazi Alex Okemiri, the Chairman of all the State Chairmen of the council, described it as unfortunate.

The group regretted that “when some of our elites get into power they are carried away by officialdom to the detriment of the future of their people.

“We insist that only restructuring of Nigeria can address her numerous challenges and not just the fight against corruption.”

On the political impasse in Abia State, the OYC called on Igbo elders not to keep quiet in the face of the logjam.

The group noted that “Igbo culture requires elders not to keep quiet when things are getting out of hand.”

They called for immediate intervention of Igbo elders in the Abia matter, with a view to finding a solution to it.

‎The OYC reiterated its call for the empowerment of Igbo Youths, who they said “are the least empowered in the country”, and that such was responsible for the agitation for Biafra.

The group commended the Imo State government for hosting the Igbo unity rally which would hold at Owerri on Thursday and Friday.

They called on all the Igbo Governors to be at the occasion, promising to mobilise the entire Igbo youths for the event.
