Ohanaeze urges INEC to decentralize PVC distribution in Lagos

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Central Working Committee Lagos State chapter, has appealed to the nation’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that the distribution of the Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs, are decentralised in Lagos State.

The group said such will enable non-indigenes to collect their cards before the rescheduled polls.

Fabian Onwughalu, the President of the chapter made the call in a statement at a press briefing in Lagos.

The President of the chapter could not hide his disappointment over the way PVCs were being distributed in the state, adding that it was a calculated ploy to bar the Igbo people from performing their civic rights.

Onwughalu, noted with displeasure the developments in some INEC offices across the state, where non-indigenes were denied their voters cards after queuing up for long.

“Ndigbo residents in Lagos are predominantly traders and the harsh condition placed by INEC for people to pick their PVCs at local government offices is cumbersome, which also affects their business hours”, he said.
