Ohanaeze summit: Security operatives flood Ekwueme Square venue in Awka

A huge detachment of heavily-armed men and women from all security agencies in Anambra state has taken over Alex Ekwueme Square, venue of today’s restructuring summit by Ohaneze Ndigbo.

This is to forestall breach of peace in view of an earlier threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to attack guests at the summit.

DAILY POST reports that although guests were still trickling in, security operatives have taken over the area, after members of the police anti-bomb squad have screened the area.

As at the time of filing this report, security helicopters belonging to the Nigeria Police Force are still hovering over the city of Awka.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra state police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, had in an earlier chat with DAILY POST, assured that the police was ready for whatever challenge IPOB posed.

So far, no member of IPOB has been sighted anywhere around Awka as the group had claimed that it would invade the town as from Sunday evening.
