Ohanaeze crisis: Youth Wing refutes fresh election, say Nwodo remain sacked

The leadership of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, OYW, on Sunday urged the general public to discountenance reported election of new executive for the group

This was contained in a statement made available to DAILY POST, signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President, Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Secretary General and Comrade Achuonye Obinna, Deputy President.

This is sequel to news making the rounds that a new Ohanaeze Youth leadership emerged over the weekend.

The OYW while referring to Chief Nnia Nwodo as a ‘former President-General’ of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, said he lacked powers to call for elections.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro-led Ohanaeze Youth Wing, OYW, has been drawn to the purported emergence of illegal OYW executive arranged by former President-General, Nnia Nwodo.

“At this juncture, in is incumbent on OYW to draw the media and public attention to the fact that Ohanaeze Youth Wing led by Isiguzoro is intact and unshaken, still in the saddle till next year when a unity elective convention would be held as mandated and we would liken this ugly development to be act of ongoing generalissimo war on the Ohanaeze Youth and Women wings by the self-estranged and former president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Nnia Nwodo.

“A man sacked from office, for grossly abusing the office of the President General, and avoided the panel set up by Ime Obi members, lacked the locus standing to conduct election of Ohanaeze Youth wing.

“According to Ohanaeze constitution, it’s only the Youth wing that has the right to conduct her election; so, former President-General, Chief Nnia Nwodo has shown desperation in putting up illegal structure to mortgage Ndigbo in 2019.

“We will resist Nnia Nwodo with the last drop of blood. We call on Biafrans, South East Governors, South East Caucus in National Assembly, and Igbo leaders of thought, to step forward and bring lasting solution to this situation.

“While we may not be seen joining issues with the illegal factional Ohanaeze Youth Wing, OYW, for not wanting to divide the ranks of the Igbo youths and nation, we must be forthright submit that the new Ohanaeze Youth faction should always bear in mind the proverbial saying: ‘a slave that sees where his fellow slave is being committed to a shallow grave with hoe and celebrates should wait for same measure on his own day’.

“We shall not be distracted more, but Igbo interest and pan social concerns shall always be paramount to us and we are not going to waste our time joining issues with anybody claiming to be new exco of OYW, but advise them to have a rethink on enslaving the Ohanaeze Youth Wing.

“We shall be more focused in our up-to-the-minute service to Igbo nation and youths, in particular. No shaking! We wish to inform Nigerians and Ndigbo that Former President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo lack powers to bring any illegal structure on board.”
