Ohanaeze: Call for Nwodo’s resignation reckless – Youth wing

The Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday carpeted calls for the resignation of Ohanaeze President General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo.

Some Igbo groups had demanded his resignation following his reported visit to former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in his Abuja residence.

However, in a press statement issued in Enugu yesterday, the national and publicity sectaries of the Ohanaeze Youths, Comrade Okwu Nnabuike and Obinna Adibe, respectively, described the call as reckless.

This is also as the youths pledged their loyalty to the Nwodo-led National Executive Council, NEC, of Ohanaeze, as they serve out their tenure in two years time.

They observed that Nwodo had set out to not only unite Ndigbo but to revive the true Igbo spirit, stressing that as such, unnecessary attacks and distractions would do no one any good.

“We wish to use this opportunity to once more congratulate the Chief John Nnia Nwodo led Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“This is no doubt a new dawn for Ndigbo as we have no doubt in his ability to steer this ship safely considering his track records of public service and experience.

“However, we are pained that paid fifth columnists are at it again. The agents of ‘pull him down syndrome’ are back again.

“The recent call for Nwodo’s resignation is not only reckless, ridiculous but also wicked. We say this because it has no basis at all considering the reasons adduced by these jobbers.

“If indeed Nwodo visited Atiku, what crime has he committed? Should he now abandon all his former friends because he is now Ohanaeze President? Are we also now saying that Ndigbo should not build bridges? Can we operate and live in isolation as a people?” They queried.

The youths, therefore, demanded immediate and unreserved apology over the attack on Nwodo, stressing that “if they fail to do the needful, we shall not hesitate to expose them.”

They called on Ndigbo to give Nwodo all the support needed to excel in his position, even as they urged the Ohanaeze President to “move on and not allow himself to be distracted by enemies of progress.”
