Ohanaeze blows hot, berates security agencies for not arresting killers of Enugu Catholic Priest

The apex Igbo Socio-cultural body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has expressed disenchantment over alleged inability of the Security operatives to arrest perpetrators of the Killing of the Enugu Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu.

The group said it was greatly touched by the murder of a Catholic priest in Enugu and wondered why the perpetrators of the act are yet to be arrested.

Offu was killed by yet to be identified gunmen, suspected to be armed herdsmen, while travelling on Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area of the State in the evening of Thursday, Aug. 1.

Ohanaeze, in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST, Wednesday morning, questioned, “Are they ( killers) spirits or small gods? These Killers have flesh and blood and are not beyond the searchlight of the security agents once they want to do their job”.

The Igbo body suggested ways to end insecurity in the country, which included, the will to do so by the political class at all levels and punishment of the culprits caught in any act of as a deterrence to others.

It said, “The third and fourth are the sincerity of the ruling class in Nigeria and re-engineering of our security architecture.

“The fifth and sixth are provision of jobs for our youths and equity for in every leaderships at all levels”.

Ohanaeze lauded the initiative to use drone and CCTV to secure the South West by President Muhammed Buhari, but advised the South East and all parts of the country to be included in the security measure.

The highest Igbo Organization, however, maintained its call for the implementation of 2014 National Confab reports, asserting that without that, Nigeria would continue to be beating about the bush in search of a solution to her challenges.
