The organized labour in Ogun State has issued a fresh 72-hour ultimatum to the Ogun State government after the expiration of the 23-day warning notice. Ogun state Governor, had in July mocked states that are owing civil servants salaries, saying such should not exist.

On Monday, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council at news conference at the Iwe Irohin House of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), declared that the workers were set for industrial action by Thursday.

NLC chairman, Akeem Ambali, said with the expiration of the 23-day ultimatum given on September 29, “and with no concrete responsive from the government, we are again giving a fresh 72 hours ultimatum for the government to address our issues or be faced with total strike option by Thursday.”

The executives of three bodies lamented that the situation with them was getting worrisome and alarming.

“We have unremitted deductions totaling 12 months. Six years of uncleared contributory pension scheme, unpaid gratuities and inability to effect necessary promotions in the last 22 months,” the JNC chairman, Comr. Abiodun Olakanmi said.
