The Ogun state Police Command on Thursday arraigned six men before an Ota Chief Magistrates’ Court, over alleged possession and smoking of Indian hemp.
The accused, of no fixed address, were identified as Ado Musa, 40, Azeez Shola, 50, Samuel Okorafor, 38, Babalola Akeem, 28 Omoyosi Kamoro, 45 and Bright Anthony, 36.
DAILY POST reports that they were said to have committed the offences on October 14, at about 11:00 pm at Ojuelegba Street, Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ebibomino Itaita, told the court that the accused and others still at large were found smoking substance suspected to be Indian Hemp in public.
He noted that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 250(4) of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Law of Ogun State, 2006.
All the accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Funke Odubanjo, granted the accused N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
In her ruling, the Magistrate said that one of the sureties must be a close relation of the accused, produce one year tax clearance and swear to an affidavit of means, ruling that the address of the sureties should be verified by the Police.
Odubanjo, however, adjourned the case till December 21 for mention.
