Ogun 2015: Daniel’s protege, Gboyega Isiaka, joins Labour Party

Indications emerged on Sunday that former Ogun state governorship candidate under the platform of Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, is on his way to the Labour Party, LP.

The defection which is yet formal, came to light during his 51st birthday ceremony at his home in the Ibara Government Reservation Area, Abeokuta.

A mammoth crowd of Labour Party faithful, including state chairman, Olabode Simeon and secretary, Sunday Oginni, were at the event. PPN officials too were present.

In a brief interview, an excited Isiaka said, “As you can see now is not a time to talk. We are all having fun. I will speak at the appropriate time”.

It is no longer news that the one-time boss of Gateway Holdings is the political son of the ex-governor Gbenga Daniel.

He emerged as a factional People’s Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the last gubernatorial election in the state. But he left for the PPN, after the candidate of former the president, Olusegun Obasanjo camp, Gen. Tunji Olurin (rtd) was recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as Ogun PDP flagbearer.

However, Isiaka came third in the election won by incumbent Ibikunle Amosun of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.

Observers say Sunday’s development was a sign that LP and PPN may field a common candidate for the 2015 governorship election..

Labour Party state secretary, Sunday Oginni, said the party was confident in the ability of its new member.

“We believe in Gboyega Isiaka as a leader that can deliver. He is a material in Ogun State. It is noble for Labour Party to felicitate with him’ the party scribe stated,” he said.
