Odey deserves Super Eagles call-up – Mbaoma

Remo Stars captain, Victor Mbaoma, has called on Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, to invite MFM’s Stephen Odey to the national team.

Odey scored twice on Sunday, as the Olukoya Boys defeated Plateau United 2-1 at the Agege Stadium, in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 14 clash.

The teenager has now netted 10 goals in 10 matches.

“It is not any kind of competition to me, it is our job to score, so we are not trying to look for the best goals scorer, but I just have to praise him for because he has done so well – scoring ten goals in ten games, in fact, he has done so well,” Mbaoma told Goal.

“I watched their game against Plateau United live and I think he actually deserves more in the sense that I see him as a player with great prospect, he is a very good player, and for the goals he has scored, I am highly impressed.

“I may not be able to assess myself while on the field, but I rely on people’s assessment to justify my performance, but as for me and Odey, we are two different kinds of players with two different kinds of play but, we can’t take away that fact that he is a very good striker.

“My kind of person is that when someone does something good, we have to appreciate such person regardless of the team the person is playing for, or the price that is at stake at the end of the league – that is not important, what will be will definitely be, but like I said earlier, I am impressed with his ten goals ten games feat.

“He deserves something very great, and one of those great things is a national team call up, and as well playing for a very good team outside of the country so that he will come out much more in style, and it is not just about doing that, but a way to encourage people that are doing very well.”

MFM are now second on the NPFL table with 24 points from 13 games.
