Odemwingie apologizes for red card against Leeds

Osaze Odemwingie has said sorry for the red card he picked up, in Rotherham United’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at the New York Stadium.

The former Nigeria international was sent off for challenging Liam Cooper with a raised elbow. Odemwingie insists the incident was unfortunate, but says he was trying to defend himself.

He praised his team-mates for getting a late consolation in the 86th minute and for almost getting one point from the fixture.

“I was unlucky with the red card. We all normally jump with our hands up to protect each other and expected his to be up as well,” Odemwingie tweeted.

“I didn’t mean to but caught the player and accept the referee had no choice. Hope the boys get something out of the game. Ups and downs.

“Great effort from the boys. Had the chances to equalise. Proud of them giving us hope for the season. Second half performance was top class”, he added.
