Oboabona’s free-kick earns Super Eagles draw against Namibia

Sunshine Stars captain, Godfrey Oboabona, hammered in a free-kick few minutes after Namibia took a shock lead, to salvage a draw for thee Super Eagles in their penultimate 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Stephen Keshi’s men started the game brightly, passing nicely and pressing the Namibians back. However, their final balls were poor and when they got it right, they fluffed their chances.

It continued that way in the second half, until the Brave Warriors took a shock lead in the 77th minute. The visitors lost the ball in midfield and a well-worked counter-attack ended with a neat volley past Enyeama.

Oboabona, who had an excellent display in the centre of defence along with Kenneth Omeruo, then stepped up to level matters.

The result ensures that Nigeria will have to wait till their last game at home to Malawi, to confirm their spot in the final rounds of qualification.

Standings (played, won, drawn, lost, goals for, goals against, points)

Nigeria 5 2 3 0 5 3 9

Malawi 5 1 4 0 4 3 7

Namibia 5 1 2 3 2 3 5
