About 13,000 households in Anambra State have been shortlisted to receive the N5, 000 monthly stipends under the State’s Cash Transfer Programme initiative.
Cash Transfer Programme is one of the Federal Government’s projects, under the Social Investment Programme aimed at alleviating poverty among the poorest and vulnerable in the state.
No fewer than 100 facilitators were recruited to participate in the exercise with the task of ensuring that the beneficiaries receive their stipends at their door steps.
Lady Chinwe Iwuchukwu, Deputy Focal Person, Social Investment Programmes, Anambra State announced this, during the flag off the programme at IDK Learning Centre, Awka, on Wednesday.
Gov. Willie Obiano, at the flag-off of the two-day step down training programme for local government cash transfer facilitators, reaffirmed the willingness of the state to participate in initiatives that would be to the benefit of residents.
The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Social, Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Mr Azuka Offormata advised the facilitators to take the programme seriously and adhere to its rudiments.
“His Excellency is so much interested in the welfare of the people, he takes special interest in the plight of his people; that is why the state was the first in the South East to kick start the programme’’, he said.
He urged them to ensure that the beneficiaries of the project received their stipends regularly.
Lady Iwuchukwu, who also doubles as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Donor Agencies, commended the governor for his support to all Social Investment Programmes.
