Obi sets aside deportation row, commiserates with Fashola over father’s death


Contrary to people’s expectation that the heated arguments between Lagos and Anambra states over the repatriation of some Anambra indegines resident in Lagos will degenerate, Governor Peter Obi yesterday mourned the death of Pa Ademola Fashola, father of the Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola.

Pa Fashola passed away on Monday morning at the age of 80.

Over the past few days, Lagos and Awka have been at loggerheads over the alleged deportation, with officials of both states, as well as leadership of the All Progressive Congress, APC and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, taking swipe at each other. While some reports say about 70 Anambra indigenes were affected, Lagos insists the figure is 14.

But Obi appears to have put the issue behind him, as he sent a condolence message to his colleague on the loss of his father.

The Anambra helmsman in a statement expressed sadness over the news, saying although he did not know the late Ademola Fashola personally, he however recalls his character as he was told by late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

The Anambra helsman urged Fashola and the people of Lagos State to “take solace in the fact that death awaits everyman” and that the deceased was the human source of the good season presently reigning in Lagos State.

Obi also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Ademola Fashola and for God’s grace to enable those directly affected by his transition to cope with the loss.

Meanwhile, condolence continues to pour in for the Lagos Governor.

President Goodluck Jonathan, leadership and members of the National Assembly, state Governors, prominent individuals have all expressed grief at the death of Pa Fashola .
