Obama condemns capture of Chibok town by Boko Haram

United States President, Mr. Barack Obama, has condemned last week’s recapture of Chibok town by members of the Boko Haram sect.

Chibok is the town where the terrorists abducted more than 270 female students in April, 2014.

Reacting to the seizure through a spokesperson of the White House, Ms. Jen Psaki, Obama lamented the development, which he said showed the difficult situation in the Northern part of Nigeria.

He added that the American military advisors sent out in April were still on the ground to assist in finding the girls.

“I believe there is still a presence there. I don’t have the exact specifics on the numbers on that front.

“We are aware of the report. And while we are closely monitoring it, we don’t have confirmation of all the specifics that have been out there. We condemn these attacks in Chibok, a community that has already suffered too much.

“Our condolences go out to the families of the victims. We remain committed to helping the government of Nigeria address the threat posed by extremist organizations and to assist – assisting Nigeria and its neighbours – Cameroon and Chad – to address critical security needs.”

The president further stated that his administration had provided a range of assistance to the government of Nigeria to end the reign of terror in the land.
