US President, Barack Obama has named Secretary of State, John Kerry, as leader of the country’s delegation to the inauguration of Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s president on May 29.
The US State Department made the announcement in a tweet Monday night.
“Today @POTUS announced that @JohnKerry will lead the U.S. Presidential Delegation to the inauguration of President-elect, Buhari of #Nigeria,” it said.
Kerry’s presence at the inauguration will be significant as US Presidents, in most cases, sends its Ambassador to swearing-in events.
Also on Tuesday, Obama’s National Security Adviser, Susan Rice, tweeted that, “Inauguration will mark a historic transfer of power and underscores the Nigerian people’s commitment to democracy.”
