Obafemi Martins completes transfer from Levante to MLS side, Sounders FC


Obafemi Martins has confirmed that he left La Liga side, Levante, for Major League Soccer side, Sounders FC.

The ‘weapon of mass destruction’, who recently got recalled to the Super Eagles, took to his Twitter page  to announce his next career move.

“Wow..Finally,I can now announce that I have just signed for Sounders FC..A big step to take in my career.it’s a big challenge but I’m ready,” he said.

Martins reportedly bought out his release clause of about three million euros ($3.9 million, £2.6 million), to make the switch possible.

Levante confirmed the payment on their official website stating that, “Obafemi Martins has deposited this afternoon at the headquarters of the Spanish professional league (LFP) the fee which corresponds to the buyout clause in his contract with Levante.

“The LFP have then proceeded to transfer the fee and it has been deposited with Levante.”

Martins, who moved to Spain from Russia, added that: “I will like to thank Levante UD for giving me a great opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world…

“This is so difficult for me to do, but I really do love my fans..Levante fans are the best… I will always cherish the time I played here..

However, the striker said he was excited about the move and looking forward to plying his trade in the US.

“I look forward to this new era in my career… I also look forward to meet my new teammates and the Sounders FC fans, my new family…
