The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) Ile-Ife, on Thursday inducted 139 new nurses with an advice that they should discharge their duty effectively with the fear of God.
The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Dr Kayode Olabanji, gave the advice during the 2016 Professional Induction for 2015 Graduating Nurses in Ile-Ife.
Olabanji, who represented the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Victor Adetiloye, said that nursing profession had stepped forward with competent and qualified people with degrees, as nurses.
“Gone are the days, when government looks for people with little education to volunteer for nursing services,’’ he said.
Adetiloye advised the inductees to strive further educationally and keep abreast globally, for what they had learnt would soon be outdated.
He further advised the nurses to be faithful to the oath taken, be selfless and caring for patients.
According to him, nursing service is for humanity and as such, they should endeavour to save lives.
The Head of Nursing Education Department, OAUTH, Ile-Ife, Mrs Olubunmi Lawal, congratulated the inductees and urged them to be focussed, caring and be committed.
Lawal urged them to keep abreast of new developments in the profession and contribute their own quota to the development of healthcare delivery across the country.
She urged them to avoid laziness, to be punctual and to comply with the rules and regulation guiding the profession.
Lawal also urged them to be good ambassadors of their parents and school.
One of the inductee’s parents, Mrs Olufemi Olayinka, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), thanked God for given her the grace to produce a nurse.
Olayinka admonished nurses to put God first in their endeavours and be friendly with their patients.
One of the inductees, Helen Asuelimen, acknowledged God for granting her success.
Asuelimen urged her colleagues to study further and let the sky be their limit. (NAN)
