The Committee set up by the management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, to investigate the alleged sexual harassment involving Prof. Richard Akindele, of the Department of Management and Accounting and a female student has reportedly submitted its report, recommending indefinite suspension of Akindele.

Punch quoted a member of the committee saying, “We recommended indefinite suspension of the professor pending the time the final report will be ready. The committee, in its interim report, established a prima facie case against him.

“We invited him and the female student. We identified the student and invited her, but she did not appear; only the professor honoured our invitation. I don’t want to tell you what he said on the telephone”.

Akindele, in a a leaked audio clip was allegedly quoted to have demanded for a sex romp from a female student before she could pass a course which she supposedly failed.

Following the huge condemnation and reaction generated by the scandal on different social media platforms, the University management, through the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunmodede had set up a panel to ascertain the veracity of the sexual mess.

According to him, the university has zero tolerance to sexual harassment through it’s anti-sexual harassment policy, promised to punish whoever found culpable at the end of the investigation accordingly.

“I wish to assure the general public that Obafemi Awolowo University has zero tolerance for sexual harassment. The University considers sexual harassment as a serious offence contrary to its Code of Conduct for the University Community and against the Anti-sexual Harassment Policy of the University. It is totally and morally reprehensible, and the University will never condone such act by any staff or student.

“Once again, I wish to reiterate that no one found culpable of this serious misconduct of sexual harassment will go unpunished”, Ogunbodede said.
