The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been described as a veritable tool for national cohesion and development.
The Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar made this assertion Thursday during the swearing in ceremony of the 2018 Batch B Stream II joint orientation course for corps members deployed to Bauchi and Gombe states held at Wailo Camp, Ganjuwa local government area of Bauchi State.
Represented by the state head of civil service, Alhaji Liman Bello, the governor said in its over 45 years of existence, the scheme has remained an instrument for mentoring the youth and preparing them for future leadership roles.
” As leaders of tomorrow, you must be knowledgeable and well grounded in all aspects of our National life. To achieve this, the orientation program is carefully fashioned to bring you in close contact with your fellow compatriots from different parts of the country and expose you to the culture and traditions of your host communities of service,” Abubakar said.
” This no doubt that the physical training will strengthen and boost your innate sense of patriotism the result of which will translate to higher quality future leadership that will ensconce our nation on a higher pedestal among the comity of nations.”
The Governor promised that efforts aimed at reconstructing and rehabilitating camp structures and facilities will be sustained so as to create an enabling atmosphere for the success of the programme.
Speaking earlier, the state coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Afolayan James explained that at the close of registration, a total number of 1,725 corps members consisting of 1, 071 males and 654 females were registered.
