Corps members who would be engaged in the conduct of the 2015 general elections have been assured of their safety during and after the elections by the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Johnson Olawumi, who disclosed this while speaking with journalists assured that provisions have been made to guarantee the protection of lives of NYSC members before, during and after the electoral activities.
He maintained that the Scheme has entered into agreement with some Nigerian security agencies to see that the lives of all the corps members are protected and also to ensure that their welfareand logistics were adequately taken care of during the election.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Okey Ezeanyi, who spoke in the same vein while on a visit to NYSC secretariat in the state, assured corps members that they would be secure.
He asserted that it is the duty of INEC to provide adequate security for corps members, who will be used as ad hoc staff for the 2015 elections, even as he advised corps members to be of good behaviour during the 2015 election activities. He also promised them prompt payment for their services.
