Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, on Friday challenged corps member to be agents of change and promote core societal values.y
Olawumi gave the charge when he visited Batch ‘’ A’’ stream B corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kaduna.
“As young men and women you are going to be the vanguard to drive the change from some negative aspect or vices within the country to positive ones.
“You must imbibe the virtues of honesty, loyalty, integrity, hard work and sacrifice for the good of your country.
“If we look at what Mr President came with in 1984, the issue of war against indiscipline, these corps members should drive the positive values we want in the society.”
He advised the corps members to imbibe good qualities that would lead to the realization of their potentials as prospective leaders of the country.
“Corps members should preach, advocate and go on aggressive sensitisation, telling Nigerians on the need to shun corruption and be orderly in whatever we do in terms of traffic and so many other aspect of the society that need change.”
The DG also advised the corps members to take advantage of the skills acquisation programme of the NYSC, to develop their enterpreneurship skills.
He said that the NYSC management would provide capital to any corps member who developed a viable work plan at the end of the service year.
Olawumi assured the corps members that the Federal Government was fully committed to the welfare and security of corps members across Nigeria.
Also, the State Cordinator, Mr Hillary Nasamu thanked the DG for the visit and requested for more support to the camp including the immediate rehabilitation of some of the facilities.
