The Abia state chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reacted to the Sunday’s bomb explosion that occurred at the Enugu residence of the President General of the apex Igbo body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo.
DAILY POST reports that Nwodo’s residence in Enugu state was on Sunday rocked by bomb blast.
Speaking to newsmen in a press conference held in Aba, Abia state on Tuesday, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the state, Elder Rowland Ajuzieogu described the incident as unfortunate, stressing that the incident cannot derail Nwodo from working and standing for Ndigbo to ensure they take their rightful place in the schemes of things.
He said,”What actually happened in the home of our President-General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, is an unfortunate incident. Our position in this matter is that the incident instead of threatening the resolve of Chief Nwodo to work and stand for Ndigbo and in ensuring that Ndigbo takes their rightful place in the politics of this country, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Abia state chapter solidly stand behind our President General in this time of trouble and afflictions. We are not afraid in anyway. This country belong to all of us”.
“But it is quite a pity that persons of whatever kind would try to be funny in this very manner. Abia state stand with our PG. And we will stand with him all the way”.
On the face-off between the parental body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the youth wing of the group, Ajuzieogu said that the tenure of Okechukwu Isiguzoro-led leadership of Ohanaeze Youths had elapsed, disclosing that a new youth and women leadership of the group had been elected waiting for inauguration.
According to him,”There is no single crisis rocking the national leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. By virtue of my position as President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Abia state and a statutory member of the National Executive committee of the body, there is no trouble or fracas at the national level.
“What actually happened is that the position and the tenure of the previous youth and women leadership expired. And by the constitutional power that NEC has, we had conducted another election in which the new youth leadership and women leadership had been elected respectively.
“And the level in which the present NEC of Ohanaeze is operating is not a situation where people would distract us. We cannot be distracted because we are well focused in what we are doing”.
