The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has, called on the federal government to assist the families of teachers who were killed by Boko Haram in the course of imparting knowledge to student in Borno.
Alhaji Bulama Abiso, the Borno Chairman of the association, made the appeal while distributing relief materials worth millions of Naira to families of the deceased teachers.
Abiso said that 50 families would get N200,000 for three months, pointing out that it would go a long way to ease the hardship of the deceased families.
He said also that the North Eastern chapter of the union would also contribute additional N200,000 for three months and ensure that all the families benefited.
Abiso said that the education sector was the worst effected by the insurgency as most of the schools were closed or burnt down by the insurgency.
He stressed the need to assist teachers as most of them were displaced and lost their jobs.
