The Cross River chapter of the National Association of Nigerian nurses and midwives has embarked on an indefinite strike.

The action follows the lopsided appointment of a level 13 public health officer who is to head a primary health centre in Obudu, Calabar while level 16 and 17 officers were sidelined.

According to the secretary of the union, Mr Ojom Offot, the health facility which has a level 15 and 16 officer presently cannot have a level 13 officer in charge.

He said: “The appointment of the level 13 public health officer seemed biased as nurses in level 15 and 16 should have been given that appointment. “The strike action is over the refusal of the state local government council chairman, Mr Petr Adighe to reverse the lopsided appointment.

“All efforts to reverse the unfair, abnormal posting have been rebuffed by Mr Adighe, henceforth the need to strike,” Mr Offot added.
