The Nigeria Union of Journalists has tackled federal government on the current security challenges facing the country.
The union has also linked herdsmen to the barbaric massacre and genocide taking place in Benue State and the entire north central and western part of the country.
This was contain in a communique issued in Bauchi after the union National Working Committee meeting held at Yankari and signed by Shuaibu Usman Leman, National Secretary.
” The NWC notes that Nigeria is faced with many security challenges and has posed serious threats to social, economic and political stability not only in Nigeria, but the entire African continent,” said the communique.
The NUJ condemned in totality the increasing spate of kidnappings and called for the immediate overhauling of security apparatus to cope with the menace of threats.
The communiqué further frowned at the activities of herdsmen and criminal gangs in North central and the West, pointing out that, the menace has assumed a frightening dimension, especially in Benue States and Birnin Gwari axis of Kaduna State.
“We want the Federal Government to urgently take all the necessary measures to avert anarchy in the country. However, we also enjoin security agencies to improve on their intelligence to tackle threats in all facets,” added Leman.
