NUJ elects, inaugurates DAILY POST’s Correspondent, other new officers in Ebonyi

The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi State Council, has elected a new set of officers, who will pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.

The new officers were elected and inaugurated on Tuesday, April 9, at the Council Secretariat in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The newly-inaugurated executive members were elected unopposed.

The newly-inaugurated officers included Tony Nwizi, Chairman; Benjamin Nworie Vice Chairman; Nnamdi Akpa Secretary, Aliuna Godwin for Financial Secretary.

Mr. Nwizi belongs to the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, EBBC, chapel.

Mr. Godwin Aliuna is a Correspondent of DAILY POST and member of Correspondent Chapel (Financial Secretary)

Other members of the Executive are Chinaza John, NTA Chapel (Assistant Secretary), Igiri Silvia, Information Chapel (Treasurer) and Juliana Okoro, Unity FM Chapel, (Auditor).

While swearing-in the seven-man exco, Comrade Ken Ofoma, Secretary of the NUJ in charge of Zone C (South East), praised the Ebonyi State Council for a successful election and inauguration.

He tasked council members to lend their support to the new team, while also urging the new Executive not to allow their personal interest override the collective interest of the union.

Speaking on behalf of the new officers, the chairman, Comrade Tony Nwizi, pledged that the new executive will sustain the tempo of good leadership of his Predecessor, Veronica Osim.

He also pledged to uphold the integrity of the union by eliminating quackery and raising the image of the profession in Ebonyi.

The Chairman also made his first appointment immediately. He announced the appointment of Mr Felix Uka of Authority Newspaper as Ex-Officio member 1 and Sir Emmanuel Irem of Afikpo Today chapel as Ex-Officio member 2.

In his own remarks, chairman of credentials committee for the Ebonyi NUJ election, Dom Isute, praised the Council for a successful transition; and also commended his committee for adhering to the constitution of NUJ in discharging its duties.

The election was supervised by  Mr. Gbemiga Bamidele, who is the Senior Assistant National Secretary of the NUJ.
