The Rivers State University of Science and Technology has been renamed to Rivers State University.
The name change of the state owned University follows a resolution by the State House of Assembly.
The members said their decision was based on the directive of the National Universities Commission, NUC, for Universities to concentrate on the core mandates establishing them.
Speaker of the House, Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani said some courses risked de-accreditation if the law setting up the institution was not reviewed.
Ibani said, “All members of the House agreed that the name of the University be changed so that it can have direct bearing with the current trend, especially with the directive of the National Universities Commission.”
The House also passed the Rivers state University Hospital Bill, 2017 into Law, which allows the State owned University to have its own hospital inside the campus.
