The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Rivers State Command on Tuesday said it rescued a two-month old baby dumped in a refuse site in the state.

The infant was picked up on Friday by officials of the NSCDC on patrol along the New Elelenwo Manifold in Akpajo, Eleme Local Government Area, LGA, of the state.

The baby was said to have been abandoned inside a carton of noodles and placed in the refuse dump.

In a statement on its official website, the NSCDC said, “The baby was in a critical condition at the time she was rescued due to the rain and bad weather she had been exposed to.

“She is doing well after officials rushed her to a hospital where she was given prompt and adequate medical attention.

“The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Helen Amakiri, said the baby will be handed over to the Social Welfare Department of the Ministry of Women Affairs,” the statement added.
