As part of efforts to checkmate illegal activities of vandals, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC ), Kaduna State command has commenced routine combing of vulnerable spots in the state.
Briefing operatives in the Anti-vandal Unit before departure for the special operation in Kaduna Friday, the State Commandant, Alhaji Modu Bunu, charged them to be diligent and ensure transparency in the discharge of their duties.
He said the move became imperative considering the unfortunate resilient posture of vandals which translates to huge national economic loss.
Regrettably, the state NSCDC boss recalled that instead of some communities to report illicit activities of vandals, they also harbour perpetrators, citing Ungwan-Liman near Kangimi and Ungwan Sauri in Igabi and Chikun local government area respectively as locations where such practices existed.
Bunu reiterated that vandalism should be seen as a serious act of sabotage and should be reported to security agencies, noting that where the reverse is the case, it would be difficult if not impossible for those charged with the responsibility of protecting it to succeed.
The routine security checks of vulnerable pipelines which started at Laduga forest is to simultaneously continue in all spots across the state.
He, however, commended some communities who frown at the antics of vandals and report same for appropriate measures. This was also as he called on youth to devise legal means of livelihood rather than resort to unscrupulous ways of survival.
While appealing to communities where pipelines are located to be wary of the presence of NSCDC personnel and cooperate with them, the State NSCDC helmsman called for collaboration in the interest of the nation.
