NSCDC arrests most wanted pipeline vandal in Kogi

A most wanted pipeline vandal, Ishaku, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Everestus Obiyo, disclosed this at a news conference in Lokoja on Thursday.

Obiyo said Ishaku, who had been on the wanted list of the command for over one year, was arrested at Adabo community in the Eastern part of Kogi State.

He said the suspect took part in siphoning petroleum product (crude oil) from vandalised pipeline along KM 58 in Abaji and also vandalised another, PPMC, pipeline at along same route.

Obiyo also told journalists that another suspect, Mallam Abubakar, was convicted by a Federal High Court in Lokoja and sentenced to 17-years in prison for criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of petroleum product and illegal dealing in petroleum.

He added that the command arrested some persons and received eighteen (18) different cases that are both criminal and civil in nature ranging from kidnapping, murder, armed robbery, theft, threat to life and illegal possession of fire arms.

While reviewing the achievement of his command between November to December, Obiyo said; “in the period under review, remarkable achievements were recorded as a result of pro-active measures taken by corps to checkmate and reduce criminal activities. Available reports indicate that cases of crimes and criminalities in the state during the period under review were very low.”

The commandant, however, warned criminals operating in Kogi State to relocate before the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebration.
