NSCDC arrests 8 suspects, siezes 142, 000 litres of petroleum products in Akwa Ibom

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom Command has arrested eight suspects and impounded 142, 000 litres of illegally suspected petroleum products.

The State Commandant of the Corps, Mr Adeyinka Ayinla, disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Uyo, the state capital.

Ajinla said that the suspects were arrested in two different locations during the command operations in the state.

According to him, “The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the last three to four weeks has siezed 142, 000 litres of illegally suspected petroleum products.

“I want the people of Akwa Ibom State and particularly criminals to desist from this act of economic sabotage.

“We are also monitoring unlicensed petroleum stations as stakeholders; we are going to partner with other sister security agencies to ensure that there is no adulterated petroleum products in the state.

“The eight suspects arrested, some of them have been charged to Court, while some are under investigation and will be charged to Court when investigation is completed.”

Ajinla also warned operators of private security guards company that have not formalised their registration to do so immediately, stressing that by next week the command would clamp down on all unregistered private guards companies in the state.

He said, “On my assumption barely a month ago, I called the Head of Department Private Guards Companies and the Chairman of Private Guards Companies in the state.

“We had a meeting together and I have told them my own mission, that we do not want any unregistered private guards company in the state.

“I can assure you from next week, we are going to go on sealing of all unlicensed private security guards companies in the state.

“We should allow the registered private guards companies to work. Those people that are licensed should work very well so that they will know that the Corps is protecting them.”

On protection of critical infrastructure in the state, the Commandant urged vandals to stay clear of all government and public infrastructure as the command would deal decisively with anyone caught in vandalism.
